Anne Caswell

I have always loved the expressive and improvisational aspects of dance. During the 1980s and 90s, I attended various free-form dances in the northeast through Dance New England as well as volunteering for Barefoot Boogie in Manhattan where I had my first opportunity to try DJing.

When I moved here in 1999, I discovered Do Your Own Dance at DanceVisions, a weekly free-form dance that had been around for many years under various facilitators. And eventually, almost inevitably, the responsibility for the dance passed onto me.

Do Your Own Dance has gone through many different forms over the years, including as a collaborative effort with Karin Moriarty's contact improvisation workshops. While no longer a weekly offering, Do Your Own Dance is still an occasional event, usually Saturday evenings, though might return more regularly in the future. If you don't do your own dance, who will?
